Kissing Che

On November 11, 2017 at the invitation of ACT Theatre as part of thier ACTivate series, we presented a reading of Kissing Che by Augusto Federico Amador in the Eulalie Scanduzzi Space. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the reading and were genuinely moved by this story of an aging Cuban drag queen in a Miami convalescent who claims to have been Che Guevara’s secret lover home who bonds with his African-America female nurse.

Our cast included Chantal DeGroat, Chris Boscia, Miguel Castellano, Ronnie Hill, and Jay O’Leary and the show was directed by emerging LA-based director Julianna Ojeda. Casting was done by Lia Fakhouri.

After the performance, a lively audience discussion followed with our special guest Monserrat Padilla. Monserrat is the coordinator of the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network. She is also a well-known national leader of the “Dreamer” movement fighting for the rights of undocumented youth under DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). She was a co-founder of the Washington Dreamers Coalition and is a vocal advocate for LGBT immigrants.
